REVIEW PROCESS
in patients with carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS), does local corticosteroid injection relieve symptoms more than placebo injection or other non-surgical interventions?
Medline (1966 to May 2006), CINAHL (1982 to May 2006), EMBASE/Excerpta Medica (1980 to May 2006), Cochrane Neuromuscular Disease Group Trials Register (May 2006), bibliographies of relevant studies, contact with author, Canadian Society of Clinical Neurophysiology, and American Association of Electrodiagnostic Medicine.
randomised controlled trials (RCTs) or quasi-randomised controlled trials that compared local corticosteroid injection into or near the carpal tunnel with placebo injection or other non-surgical interventions in patients who had idiopathic CTS in 1 or 2 hands, did not have other peripheral nervous system disorders, and did not have previous flexor retinaculum release. 12 RCTs (n = 671) met the selection criteria. Individual study quality was assessed using the Jadad score. 6 trials had scores
