QUESTION

In patients who have had a myocardial infarction (MI), do reductions in resting heart rate (HR) after treatment with β-blockers (BBs) or calcium-channel blockers (CCBs) reduce mortality and morbidity?

REVIEW SCOPE:

Included studies evaluated BBs or CCBs in patients with a history of MI followed for ⩾1 year with <10% attrition. Outcomes were relation between resting HR reduction and all-cause mortality, cardiac death, cardiovascular (CV) death, sudden death, non-fatal MI recurrence, fatal and non-fatal MI, and cardiac events.

REVIEW METHODS:
