Context
Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a global public health problem. Data from Third National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey in the USA suggests that 11% of the US population has CKD.1 CKD is associated with high risk of cardiovascular mortality, morbidity and progression to end-stage renal disease (ESRD).
