Context
Obesity and obesity-related non-communicable diseases are global health burdens associated with all-cause and cause-specific mortality, economic costs and impaired quality of life.1–3 Sugar-sweetened beverage (SSB) consumption has been linked with obesity and has long been thought to contribute to cardiometabolic diseases through increases in weight.
