The recent sad passing of David Sackett, father of Evidence Based Medicine (EBM), provides the impetus to start an urgently needed conversation about how clinicians should manage patient-led ‘big’ data from the internet in clinical practice.1 Increasingly patients are citing ever more sophisticated and compelling resources to support their choice to start, stop or change treatments.
