Prospective registration of clinical practice guidelines has received increasing attention from researchers in recent years.1–3 Registration means submitting information such as the title, purpose, developer, methodology and conflicts of interest of a planned guideline to a publicly accessible registration platform before commencing the development.4 Registration can reduce unnecessary duplication, increase transparency, improve the quality of guidelines and facilitate guideline dissemination, which in turn can be of great benefit for guideline developers, researchers, peer reviewers, editors, clinicians and other guidelines users.1 PREPARE (Practice guideline REgistration for transPAREncy, http://guidelines-registry.org) is a registration platform for guidelines that is free of charge for all guideline developers globally.4 This article will provide a detailed introduction to the PREPARE platform.

What are the current policies related to guideline registration?

The Association of Scientific Medical Societies in Germany (AWMF) and Australian National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) require all guidelines to be preregistered on their respective platforms in order to be later approved by the organisation.
