Only psychological therapies that had been evaluated in ⩾5 RCTs were included. Outcomes were depression symptom scores.PubMed, PsycINFO, EMBASE/Excerpta Medica, and the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials (all to May 2007); 22 meta-analyses; and reference lists were searched for RCTs. 53 RCTs were included. 7 types of therapy were evaluated in ⩾5 RCTs: cognitive–behavioural therapy (CBT, 38 RCTs, 56 comparisons), non-directive supportive therapy (21 RCTs, 31 comparisons), behavioural activation therapy (15 RCTs, 21 … ER -
