Eighty children ranging from five to 17 years of age, representing 159 ears, were evaluated for hearing loss following tympanostomy tube extrusion. The tubes had been extruded for one to eight years. Slightly more than 96 percent of the ears scored better than 20 dB on pure tone audiometry. On interview, virtually all parents or guardians indicated that they would consent to the procedure again if presented with similar circumstances.
